It
is because of our belief in the power and
strength of home that AHC exists.
Since 1991 AHC has been privileged to
work with the people of Asheville and
Buncombe County by providing those in
search of a new home the housing counseling,
educational and supportive services they
needed to accomplish their goals.
Please
learn about each of our direct services
by clicking on the Programs page.
We have also worked hard on a local and
statewide level to advocate for the increased
support and funding of policies and programs
that both produce and preserve affordable
housing.
We are dedicated to working on housing policy
issues because Asheville and Buncombe County
does in fact face a housing crisis.
* According to a study by the National Low
Income Housing Coalition in 2000, of Asheville
s renters 42% could not afford a two bedroom
and 54% could not afford a three bedroom
apartment.
* According to the NC Home Builders Association, Asheville currently ranks as
the most expensive housing market in the state.
* According to the US Census, in 1999 the rental vacancy rate nationwide was
8.1% and 10.8% in North Carolina. According to the City of Asheville, our local
vacancy rate is 3%. |
