Alfred Rone is an elderly gentleman who rented a
small house in south Asheville for 10 years. When his landlord requested that he move so that they could reoccupy the house, Alfred was upset and resistant to moving. He liked where he lived, and
moreover, he thought that there was nowhere that was as nice or as affordable.
But when AHC's housing counselor took Alfred to see Compton Place Apartments, built by Mountain Housing Opportunities, his eyes lit up right away.
AHC's housing counselor assisted Mr. Rone with the application procedure, and the cumbersome requirements of the HUD paperwork and documentation.
There were several times when it looked like it might fall through for him, due to waiting list confusions, and a change in the Compton Place management.
The pressure was on him to move, as his landlords had given him a final deadline to vacate that was fast approaching. A little bit of luck and thanks to
Alfred's spirit of teamwork, he and Mookie (his cat) have a great new place to live.
During the summer we heard from Alfred: he was making potato salad for a residents' cookout, and invited AHC's housing counselor to come as a guest. He said he and Mookie are enjoying their new home.
