“The Home Base counselors are a great asset to the people in our area. I’ve worked with them for over 3 years and I’ve been impressed with the many ways that they have helped people find housing and keep from losing it.”

Home Base,
A Housing Counseling
and Rental Education Program

Promoting individual and family self-sufficiency through housing counseling and supportive services as well as educating renters and landlords about their rights and responsibilities in the rental relationship.

Information and Referral
Many people have questions about housing situations that they are facing. Some just need a phone number for a program, others some quick technical information about renting. Some are new to town and want to know where to look for housing. If you call AHC one of our housing counselors will do what they can to answer your housing questions.

Home Base, Housing Counseling
Some people want or need more than just information. They need someone to work with, side by side, as they make important decisions about their housing goals. AHC’s Housing Counseling program utilizes the experience and creativity of both the counselor and the participant to accomplish those goals. Housing Counselors can help with:

  • Understanding the Asheville Buncombe County housing market.
  • Monthly budgeting-figuring out what is an affordable rent
  • Understanding rights and responsibilities as a renter in N.C.
  • Locating affordable housing and making a plan on how to get it and keep it
  • Working with a landlord
  • Transportation to search for housing
  • Finding financial assistance

A Special Note
AHC counselors will work with anyone who is interested in developing a plan to keep or find safe and affordable housing, regardless of race, gender, handicap, sexual orientation, marital status or whether or not they have children.

Contact Harriet Williams HarrietW@ahcabc.org to schedule an appointment if you are a family in need of counseling. If you are an individual, elderly or disabled, email Anne Carpenter to schedule an appointment at AnneC@ahcabc.org
