Through both housing and supportive services, Interlace serves women with minor children who are homeless as a direct result of domestic violence.
Women who enter the program must have moved beyond the domestic violence crisis, and demonstrate the ability, motivation, and skills to make positive life changes. Those who are interested in the Interlace
program should know that this is not just a housing program.
The goal of Interlace is to have all participants leave the program confident of their plans to maintain a life free of family violence and to ensure that they have a safe and affordable home to start in.
- During the 18 months in the program participants can expect the following:Participants are placed in one of 16, privately owned, rental units throughout the city of Asheville.
- During the 18 months, Interlace pays the rent and participants put 30% of their monthly income into an escrow account. Upon successful completion of the program that escrow account is turned back over to
the participant.
- Interlace counselors meet with families weekly in their homes, participants attend biweekly support groups through Helpmate, and meet monthly with Interlace staff and the other program participants.
- Participants also meet with the staff of Consumer Credit Counseling Services and Pisgah Legal Services as needed.
In order to enter the Interlace program, those interested must fill out a referral form with a caseworker or counselor from any community agency. If you are not working with a counselor you can contact
Interlace directly.
